FENG SHUI

History of Feng Shui?

Feng shui originated over 6000 years ago in China. Its foundations are rooted in the I Ching (The book of Changes).

The I Ching is one of the oldest Chinese classical texts, describing a system of cosmology and philosophy. Through symbols it identifies order in chance events. It advocates that nothing is fixed, everything is in a constant process of change. From the I Ching, stem the foundations of feng shui compass calculations, the 8 triagrams (an arrangement of 3 lines, representing a direction, element, family member and aspect) and 64 hexagrams, (an arrangement of 6 lines consisting of a combination of two triagrams).

The original application of feng shui was related with the placement of gravesites. Finding the correct place to bury your relatives would lead to good fortune for the rest of the living family, whereas, a bad location would have the opposite effect. This feng shui is referred to as yin feng shui and it is still practiced in the east.

Our ancestors soon recognized that feng shui was not only suitable for selecting gravesites but its application also benefited living peoples’ surroundings. It became evident, that people who lived in environments, where the energy and form was good flourished. Therefore, in China all government buildings, palaces and eventually whole towns were built using feng shui principles. This feng shui is known as yang feng shui.

Today, most consultants practice yang feng shui, which relates to maximizing the potential of people’s homes and businesses so that they achieve good health, beneficial relationships, social and financial success.

A small dose of Chinese Philosphy

Chinese Philosophy recognizes that three major forces influence our lives:

Heaven luck– our astrology: the planetary alignment at the time of our birth and how that shapes our life. And the family we are born into and how they nurture and influence us.

Human luck- our motivation and drive and the effort we put into developing our future.

Earth luck– the energy of the place we live and work in and how that affects our life. This is feng shui

‘We shape our buildings – thereafter they shape us…’ Winston Churchill

Literally translated feng shui means ‘wind water’. Its principles maintain that we live in harmony with our environment - that we swim with the current, rather than against the tide. Its aim is to achieve balance and harmony in your living space and maximize your potential for success.

Feng shui is a complex science, which takes many years of specialized training to practise. By harnessing the knowledge of both the form and compass orientation of a space, a practitioner can explain how the property in which you are living or working in affects your life.

The correct application of feng shui principles will balance and maximize the potential of both your home and businesses.

Feng Shui: Harmonize your home and heal your life

‘When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation, when there is order in the nation there is peace in the world.’

Homes are a reflection of their occupants. If any part is missing, neglected or has negative energy then this is reflected in the life of its occupant.

Feng shui is an amazing transformational tool that can be used to change the way a property feels.

The ‘art of placement’ is a very important aspect of feng shui. How a property sits in its environment is crucial. A building should have high ground behind it to hold the energy, stop strong winds and support us, a clear view in front to give us an open and bright future, and balanced support on its left and right side to offer its occupants a balance of yin and yang energy resulting in stability.

As well as studying the inside of a property, a practitioner has to pay attention to the outside, observing the:

  • Shape of the land
  • Shape of the property
  • Slope of the road
  • Form of surrounding buildings
  • Location of large trees
  • Electricity & telegraph poles, mobile phone masts
  • Location of power stations, police stations, churches, cemeteries & train stations
  • Locations of rivers & canals etc.

To see if they are impacting on your property and which family member they will be affecting in particular.

The external and internal form of your propery can have a huge affect on you and your family's life, for instance:

If your wealth area is located in your toilet, your finances will go down the drain.

If your relationship area is missing or imbalanced you will struggle to find a partner, or find it difficult to sustain a relationship.

If you have clashing energy in the home it will cause friction in your relationships with your partner or children.

If you have clutter or negative energy in your career area then you will struggle with your job and not get promoted.

If you have a large tree in a particular direction and location it could cause problems with fertility.

If you have a phone mast in a particular direction it could cause major problems with the health of one of your family members in particular.

If the cooker and sink are placed incorrectly in your kitchen it could cause huge conflict in a relationship.

If the direction that represents you or any family member is neglected or missing it will be reflected in their life.

If your bedroom is wrongly located or decorated your health and in particular you sleep could suffer.

If an overpowering building or sharp corner is hitting your property it can cause serious health problems for the occupants.

How do you know if you could benefit from Feng Shui?

If any of the following apply to you:

  • Relationship problems or lack of a relationship
  • Family conflicts
  • Stagnant career or unemployment
  • Draining finances
  • Depleted health (in particular back and stomach problems)
  • No vitality
  • Insomnia
  • Infertility (when there is no medical reason)
  • Buying a new home (to ensure that there are no major flaws in its form and orientation)
  • Difficulty in selling or renting your home
  • Lack of opportunities
  • Life has become an uphill struggle

The correct application of feng shui principles combined with the knowledge of astrology will balance and maximize the potential of your space to suit you, fill any void, neutralize negative energy, maximize positive energy and balance your property, thus enabling you to achieve success in every area of your life.
